Other day I made Play Dough for the first time and I wonder why, oh why, I haven’t done it before. Or even, how many times my kids played with almost dry play dough waiting for me to buy a new one for them. I got a simple recipe in the internet, bought the ingredients and made it, with the help of my kids.

Me pergunto também porque meus filhos brincaram tanto com massinhas quase secas a espera de eu comprar outra para eles. Então peguei uma receita na internet, comprei os ingredientes que faltavam e fiz, com a ajuda dos filhos que acharam isso o máximo. 

The question is that it’s not easy to find Cream of Tartar in some countries but there are many recipes without it too. (If my mother used to make Play Dough for us in Brazil, sure there is a way to do without it). My recipe today is with Cream of Tartar and I’m posting it because it was really easy to make!

– 2 cups plain flour
– 1/2 cup salt
– 2 tbsp oil
– 2 tsp Cream of Tartar
– 1 .5 cup boiling water
– food colouring (optional)
– glitter (optional)

I add everything to a bowl and mix it up, apart from water, food colouring and glitter. Then I add water but used less than the recipe says. About a cup. Go slowly with that. For a while it looks like if it’s not working but keep mixing it. It will be beautifully ready in a minute or so. Then I add the food colouring and glitter. My kids helped me with this part!

A questão é,  Cream of Tartar (Cremor Tártaro ou Ácido Tartárico) não se encontra facilmente em alguns países, tipo o Brasil. Hoje vou postar a receita que fiz, com ele, e que deu muito certo, mas sei que existem receitas de massinha sem ele. Até minha mãe disse que fazia massinha para a gente brincar, obviamente sem Ácido Tartárico. Então vamos lá para quem conseguir encontrar este ingrediente:

– 2 copos de farinha
– 1/2 copo de sal
– 2 colheres de sopa de óleo
– 2 colheres de café de Cremor Tártaro
– 1 copo de água fervente
– corante alimentar (opcional)
– glitter (optional)

Eu misturei tudo, deixando a água, o corante e o glitter para o final. Daí misturei a água (usei um copo) e fui mexendo com as mãos. Por um momento parece que não vai dar certo, mas continue amassando que em alguns minutos estará pronto. Coloquei então o corante e depois o glitter. Meus filhos me ajudaram a misturar tudo nesta última fase. Desde então eles brincam todos os dias e logo, logo farei mais cores!

Quando fiquei grávida novamente eu estava passando pelos velhos pertences do meu filho para ver, não só o que eu iria manter, mas também como iria usar as coisas que manteria.
Primeiro criei a  almofada ‘Nuvem’. Eu usei um velho cobertor branco e um pedaço de uma fronha ‘muito grande’ da Zara Home, com o padrão que eu decidi que iria combinar com antigo berço azul cobalto herdado pelo irmão mais velho.

When I got pregnant again I was going through my son’s old belongings to see not only what I was going to keep, but how, actually I was going to use them.
The cloud was then created. I used an old white blanket and a piece of a ‘too big’ pillow case from Zara Home, with a pattern that matches nicely with the older brother’s cobalt blue crib.

I like it, but it was when my mother and sister came to Paris to help me with the newborn that I’ve heard them asking how much I had payed for the pillow. I said, “actually, I made it. You can look properly that it’s not a professional sewing.” “Oh, but wait, there is a tag on it”. Oh, yes, the tag!

Tags and labels give your creation a lovely finished look, don’t they? Kajsa Wikman and her book ‘Scandinavian Stitches’ told me that! These make nice details only using a piece of a beautiful ribbon.

Dois anos e meio apóster feito a almofada de Nuvem, eu fiz a almofada de Gota. Parece que a minha filha gostou! :)

Two years and half after the cloud’s cushion was made, I finished the Drop’s cushion. It looks like my daughter like it! :)

Eu tenho um lema aqui em casa que é ter menos brinquedos de plástico, eletrônicos, daqueles que brincam pelas crianças e mais brinquedos construídos por nós (ou outros), onde a criança se diverte criando e pode usar a sua infinita imaginação.

I have a motto here at home and it is to have less plastic toys, electronics, those that play by themselves  and more toys built by us (or others), where the child has fun creating using their infinite imagination.

De certa forma, meu filho foi picado pelo bichinho da mamãe, pois ele se auto intitula um criativo e quer guardar todas as caixas de papelão que aparecem em casa. Num canto do quarto dele tem uma casa (de papelão) cheia de… papelão!

In a way, my son was bitten by the mommy’s bug because he describes himself a creative person and want to save all of the cardboard boxes that appear at home. In a corner of his room has a house (of cardboard) full of … well, cardboards just waiting an opportunity to be used!

Então, resolvemos fazer teatro de marionetes, usando duas caixas pequenas de papelão, cada uma de um jeito. O Theo me ajudou a criar os personagens e segundo ele podemos criar quantos e o que quisermos. Isso mesmo Theo!

So, we decided to design some puppet theatre. Theo told me then that we can create as many and what we want. “Well said, Theo!” 

E depois de semanas nós aumentamos o nosso teatro e ainda brincamos com ele!

After weeks we improved our theatre and we are still playing with it.

Outra opção, com papelão, tesoura e uma canetinha, fizemos personagens, uma casa, uma árvore, outra árvore de natal (afinal, como diz o Theo, está chegando o Natal), etc…

“Other option, using a simple envelope, scissors and a crayon, we made characters, a house, a tree, another Christmas tree, etc… (after all, as Theo says, Christmas is on the way) :)

“Get outdoors. Jumping in puddles, kicking up leaves, and listening to birds singing from the tops of trees.”

Around 37 min from Cambridge, the RSPB The Lodge is a nature reserve. RSPB  means The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and is a charitable organisation registered in England, Wales and in Scotland.

Once we got there, Theo was given a paper for identifying birds, mushrooms and plants, we rented two binoculars, meet our friends and started our walking through the reserve.

This is a great way to spend a beautiful day out and make the kids to connect and to respect nature.

Theo took his camera and was following the path of his mother. I don’t know who was the one who clicked more. :)

A month ago I prepared a recipe from my friend and nutritionist, Glaudia Galate. For those who know the Brazilian Brigadeiro know how delicious it is, although very sweet. But this time I wanted to try something healthier for my children. Then I prepared Brigadeiro for them to dip pieces of fruits in it. It’s almost the same concept of “Fondue au chocolat” but at room temperature. Knowing my kids, I did put a spoon of honey after all, just to give a bit more sweetness and it’s still healthy and a success!

Um mês atrás eu preparei uma receita da minha amiga e nutricionista, Glaudia Galate. Para quem conhece o Brigadeiro brasileiro sabe como ele é delicioso, embora muito doce e calórico, mas desta vez eu queria tentar algo mais natural e saudável para os meus filhos. Então preparei o brigadeiro para que eles mergulhassem pedaços de frutas nele. Quase que o mesmo conceito do “Fondue au chocolat” mas em temperatura ambiente. Conhecendo minhas crianças, eu acabei colocando uma colher de mel na receita. É ainda saudável e foi um sucesso. Aprovado!

Natural Brigadeiro
2 bananas (opticional: 1 frozen)
1 avocado
3 prunes soft pitted
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons raw cacao powder

Mix all ingredients in a food processor blend until cream and keep in the fridge until eat.

Brigadeiro Natural
2 bananas (opticional : 1 congelada)
1 abacate
3 ameixas
2 colheres de sopa agua
2 colheres sopa 100% cacao

Modo de fazer:
Mistura todos os ingrédients no food processador e leve na geladeira até comer.
